Or they just watched McDavid kill it in the weakest division and were not impressed.

the west division was BY FAR the worst....yes it had the 2 best teams, but it also had LA, Ana, Ari, and SJ...arguably 4 of the absolute worst teams in the league (all of them are easily bottom 10)

Except for the fact that the divions have been changed for one year of his whole career. He kills the Pacific Division every single year just the same... But ya more dumb excuses please. I guess they were more impressed with Backstrom not even finishing top 15 in assists.

The only thing McDavid and Matthews are going to win are individual awards. I do agree McDavid is by far a more team player, he just is not going to win anything playing for the Oilers.

The point of trading Debrusk would be to shed cap to re-sign the others. Further, given their depth on the RW, Kassian is gonna be of less-than-zero interest to them. If the point is making the finances work for Edmonton too, I could see the Oilers requiring they take on Turris' deal to help get some kind of return. Alternatively, the Oilers just absorb the cap hit in order keep the acquisition cost low.

Don't think you're giving Backstrom enough credit here, he is a great passer and has been for a long time. I think they're looking more at the actual skill of passing rather than assists, similar to how OV got best shot even though other players had more goals.

Tell me more about benson, I think Kassian could be a good fit in Boston. What’s Kassians contract?

3.25. Way too much

Benson is a smart player and can pass well, but is very (frank)ing slow lol

Imagine not going for it when you have McDavid and Draisatil.

Like Montreal is two games away from the SCF, but you "can't try and win every year".

Instead of spending cap on over priced free agents, why not use it to get players signed for medium term from cap strapped teams to get more value on the dollar and prospects?

Holland did well on that one.

Benson will never be anything more than a fringe NHL player. His skating was suspect in junior.

*yawn*

Where is the Flames prospect pool? How many are even "fringe" players, and meanwhile haven't made the playoffs.

Look at the "pros" rankings of prospects depth.

One team is a little ahead there. And ahead in actual standings. But keep chirping. We will once again see next year who is further ahead. Regardless if either are actually serious competition for the cup. At least one will sniff a second round or be in the playoffs.
